Swanson Center for Youth hold ServSafe Food Handler Certification Class

Six youth working in the dining hall detail participated in a ServSafe Food Handler Class conducted by the Swanson Center for Youth at Monroe (SCYM) Assistant Director Sonjia Kinsey!
The youth learned all about the 5 five Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Risk Factors that included Basic Food Safety, Personal Hygiene/Handwashing, Cross-Contamination & Allergens (Special Diets), Time & Temperature Abuse, as well as Cleaning and Sanitation.
LAMOD Coordinator Phyllis Benton and Family & Community Liaison Gwendolyn Gene also participated and provided the youth with valuable safety information. The youth were excited to receive their favorite snacks for breakfast and lunch. All participants, including the LAMOD Coordinator Phyllis Benton and Family & Community Liaison Gwendolyn Gene, received a Food Handler Certificate. The youth were very excited to learn that the Food Handler certificate would be a great item to list on an application in the fast food industry.
The Food Handler training is the prerequisite for obtaining the 8-hr Food Manager Certification class, which will be offered to youth participants later this year.
