Dr. Ernest Jacob Rieux Jr. as the new Assistant Secretary of Youth Services for the Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice

BATON ROUGE, LA – The State of Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ernest Jacob Rieux Jr. as the Assistant Secretary for Youth Services, effective March 30. A native of New Orleans and a 30-year veteran of law enforcement, Dr. Rieux brings a distinguished record of field operations, executive leadership, and specialized training to the agency's leadership team.

Dr. Rieux joins OJJ following an impactful tenure with the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Division of Probation & Parole (P&P), where he has served since 2014 as a warrant team lead at the Jefferson Parish District. Throughout his career, which began with the Orleans Parish Criminal Sheriff's Office and included service with the Orleans Parish Civil Sheriff's Office, Dr. Rieux has established himself as a leader in professional standards. He was a founding member of the P&P Honor Guard and has served as a field training officer and a Transportation Security Administration trainer for fugitive recovery.

"His deep roots in Louisiana and his national reputation for leadership development will be instrumental as we continue to enhance our services and support for the youth in our care."

An accomplished scholar, Dr. Rieux holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology & Welfare from Dillard University, a Master of Science in Justice & Administration from the University of Phoenix, and a Doctorate in Business Administration with a concentration in criminal justice from North Central University. He is also a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA) Command College, a prestigious program focused on leadership at the supervisor, command, and executive levels.

In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Rieux is a nationally recognized instructor. He holds certifications from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) as an active shooter, use-of-force, and tactical medical instructor. He is an FBI-certified crisis negotiator, a certified fraud specialist, and a Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) instructor, having taught at academies for P&P, the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office, and the Port of New Orleans Harbor Police Department.

Dr. Rieux is involved in professional advocacy, currently serving as an executive board member and regional vice president of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). He also contributes to the Investigative Services Committee of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
