Swanson Center for Youth to Launch Pilot Podcast Program

The Swanson Center for Youth at Monroe is set to launch an innovative podcast program spearheaded by Public Information Director Nicolette Gordon and Business Analytics Specialist Chris Allen. The program aims to foster public speaking skills and amplify the voices of its residents. This initiative will begin as a pilot project at the Monroe campus and will eventually expand to other Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) facilities.
The new program intends to tap into the youth's inherent personalities and communication styles in secure care. By providing a platform for creative expression through podcasting, the OJJ hopes to cultivate valuable public speaking abilities.
"We recognize our youth's unique talents and perspectives," said Nicolette Gordon. "This podcast will serve as a dynamic outlet for them to develop crucial communication skills while having their voices heard."
A key element of the program will be youth ownership. Residents at the Swanson Center will participate in a democratic voting process, to name the new podcast. Furthermore, they can brainstorm and develop their show ideas, fostering a sense of responsibility and creativity.
The podcast is envisioned to play an integral role in OJJ's Youth Advisory Council. Eventually, the voices developed through this program are expected to represent the perspectives of youth across various OJJ campuses.
Launching the pilot podcast program at the Swanson Center for Youth at Monroe marks an exciting step towards empowering young voices within the juvenile justice system and equipping them with valuable skills for their future. The official name of the podcast, chosen by the youth, is anticipated to be announced in the coming weeks.
