NEWS Swanson Center for Youth held Informational for Faith Based Programs

Monroe, LouisianaAug 01, 2022On Friday, July 29^th Swanson Center for Youth at Monroe held an informational for spiritual leaders in the local community. Designed to educate, and create synergy—this half-day workshop provided an opportunity for spiritual leaders to meet youths, learn about volunteering opportunities, and best practices for following policies and procedures while serving inside of the Office of Juvenile Justice secure care facilities.  

OJJ’s Religious Mentoring Program connects youth in secure care facilities with one-on-one mentoring to meet their spiritual needs, and help them find their deity in a non-judgmental environment.

“All youth participating in the mentoring program will receive a Bible with their name engraved on it. Many of our youth ask for Bibles and for spiritual guidance, and we are excited and committed to meeting this goal for our youth,” said Carolyn Lewis, Executive Management Officer (SCY).

The program will begin this fall, with continuous recruitment of positive role models, such as, pastors, and businesspersons from the local community.

“It is important for the community to be involved and assist in the transition of these young men back into their communities. The plan is for this program to be ongoing, and become a staple that we offer at Swanson,” said Barnaby Matteer, Director of Facilities (SCY).
