Meet OJJ's Newly Appointed Deputy Secretary Kenneth "Kenny" Loftin
Kenneth "Kenny" Loftin, a native of Shreveport, Louisiana, has dedicated nearly four decades to serving in the Juvenile Justice System, leaving an indelible mark on countless young lives.
After graduating with a Bachelor’s in Behavioral Sciences from East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, Texas, in 1981, Kenny embarked on a journey in social work. He began his career as a Case Worker at a Special Needs Facility, where he gained invaluable experience working with vulnerable populations.
In 1985, Kenny transitioned to a pivotal role as a Child Abuse Investigator for the State of Louisiana, where he demonstrated unwavering commitment to protecting and advocating for children in need. His passion for juvenile justice reform led him to play a crucial role in establishing the Ware Youth Center in Coushatta, Louisiana, in 1988. As a founding member, he spearheaded the development and implementation of innovative programs to rehabilitate and empower underserved youth.
Over the years, Kenny's leadership and vision transformed Ware Youth Center into a beacon of hope for troubled youth in the community. Under his guidance, the facility expanded its services, including establishing a group home for youth and implementing an intensive residential treatment program.
Additionally, Kenny served as the Director of the Bossier Juvenile Detention Center and the Johnny Gray Jones Youth Shelter, where he continued to advocate tirelessly for the rights and well-being of young people in the juvenile justice system.
After retiring in 2015, Kenny's dedication to public service remained unwavering. In 2016, he was appointed to the Louisiana State Pardon Board, where he served with distinction for four years, bringing compassion and integrity to the pardoning process.
In 2021, answering a call to action, Kenny returned to his roots at the Ware Youth Center, assuming the role of Executive Director. Determined to make a lasting impact, he embarked on a mission to restructure and revitalize youth programming, ensuring that the center continues to provide vital support.
Kenny Loftin's lifelong commitment to juvenile justice, coupled with his compassionate leadership and unwavering dedication, serves as an inspiration to all who have had the privilege of working alongside him. His legacy will endure as a testament to the transformative power of compassion, resilience, and unwavering dedication to pursuing social justice.
Kenny has been married to his beautiful wife of 40-plus years and has one daughter.
