Bridge City Center for Youth exercises medical precautions Visitation suspended at least until September 13

Office of Juvenile Justice officials have placed Bridge City Center for Youth in Bridge City, near new Orleans,  under medical precaution due to one identified case of a youth with Type A influenza, which has not been confirmed as H1N1 (swine) flu.  A culture has been sent to a lab for further analysis.   Bridge City currently houses 126 youth.

As a matter of medical precaution, visitation has been suspended until at least September 13, unless other cases of influenza are identified.  The medical precaution will be extended if new cases of influenza are identified.

“The situation at Bridge City Center for Youth was identified very quickly and is under control,” said OJJ Deputy Secretary Mary L. Livers. “OJJ staff and LSU Health Sciences Center staff stationed at the Bridge City infirmary are working together and have put all necessary precautions into place throughout the facility that will prevent further spread of the influenza virus.”  Dr. Livers praised the staff at Bridge City and LSUHSC for their prompt and thorough response to the medical concerns
